The legendary appellation of Barolo continues to be one of the world’s most sought-after wine styles. The best wines of Barolo are in a class with the world’s great wines, like Burgundy Grand Crus, Bordeaux First Growths and the Super Tuscans of Bolgheri, yet still priced quite reasonably, with regard to their longevity, complexity, and the acclaim they receive from top critics. The 2016 vintage is the highest-rated Barolo vintage since 2010 and is a highly worthy investment for any wine enthusiast.

Some of the most noteworthy vineyards of Barolo can be found in the two south-eastern ranges of the Langhe. Fabio Oberto’s father began bottling his own wines from the family vineyards in 1978, and Fabio himself began his career working alongside him in every area of the wine business. Today, the wines Fabio produces have a reputation for expressing a purity in style that is truly reflective of how well they are matched to the fine terroir of the Langhe and how well they are made.

This 2016 Barolo is produced solely with fruit from the famed village of La Morra. The grapes are destemmed and soft pressed before fermentation and maceration takes place, using the traditional submerged cap method where skins and pips are left in contact with the juice for about 6 weeks. The wine is then matured in Slavonian oak barrels for 24 months, with subsequent ageing in bottle before release.

The Fabio Oberto Barolo Del Comune Di La Morra is garnet red in colour, with brick hues that will intensify over time. The perfume is intense and complex, but delicate and ethereal at the same time. On the palate, it is true to the La Morra style, slightly more elegant and less tannic than the rest of the region. Flavours of cassis, blackberry, cherry and raspberry and balanced with a savoury earthiness. Best enjoyed after decanting to experience the many layers to this superb Barolo.

Classic food pairings include robust meats like osso buco, roast beef or lamb stew, risotto with truffles, and game meats.
