Versatile Light Red from the Southern Alps
2021 Egger Ramer Edelvernatsch Schiava Gentile DOC
From the high altitude, cool climate region of Alto Adige comes this delightful, food-friendly red wine from Egger Ramer in the Southern Alps. If you enjoy elegant, light-bodied reds like Pinot Noir and Gamay, this is an excellent choice to expand your repertoire.
The Egger Ramer Edelvernatsch is made from the indigenous Schiava varietal, which has been one of the dominant reds of the region for centuries. Schiava Gentile is considered the finest of the subtypes, and is prized for its small berries that produce concentrated aromas and flavours.
This is a year-round red with maximum flexibility when it comes to food pairing. Schiava is one of the few red wines that can be served with seafood even, due to its light-body, juicy acidity and low tannins. At The Restaurant Pendolino, we find it to be a great match with our butter roasted Port Lincoln King George Whiting, as an example. It also pairs well with Asian spices like lemongrass and ginger.
The Egger Ramer Edelvernatsch is made with 100% Schiava Gentile fruit from vines up to 25 years old. Light red in the glass, with mild aromas of red berries and roses, and a pleasantly mild finish with a hint of bitter almond. Best enjoyed while young and fresh. Pair it with starters, white fish, smoked meats and sausages, as well as poultry and mild cheese.
