2021 Degani Valpolicella Classico DOC
Along with Tuscany and Piedmont, the Veneto is one of Italy’s most significant and productive wine regions. Here, in northeastern Italy, the native grapes of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinari are the core constituents of Valpolicella wines. From this signature blend, an entire spectrum of styles are produced: Valpolicella Classico and Superiore, Ripasso, Amarone, and the dessert wine, Recioto della Valpolicella. Each of these expressions employs a different production method, yielding a range of medium to full bodied wines with an intensifying alcohol content level and tannic structure.
Valpolicella in its most basic form is generally light and fragrant, with the best quality wines offering bright, crunchy fruit characters and vibrancy. Valpolicella Classico is produced from grapes grown in designated vineyards in the historic centre of the Valpolicella region. These tend to be more flavourful and better quality than those found outside of the classico zone.
Located in the beautiful countryside between Verona and Lake Garda, the Degani Winery produces a stunning range of Valpolicella wines. Stringent cluster selection and meticulous attention to detail throughout the drying, crushing and vinification processes enables them to craft styles that are true to the region's celebrated traditions. The 2021 Degani Valpolicella Classico is intense ruby red with aromas of cherry and redcurrant. Light and floral, the wine has good persistence and intensity, with adequate tannins to balance the generous acidity. A delightful red wine to enjoy with white meats, aged cheeses, risotto and pasta dishes.
