Experience the ultra-rare Pignolo variety, appropriately aged for optimum enjoyment. Pignolo is a grape indigenous to Friuli, actually threatened with extinction. It is thanks to producers like Guerra Albano and the iconic Radikon and Gravner, that this varietal is continuing to be cultivated.
The 2015 Guerra Albano Matteo Pignolo is deep red in the glass, with garnet hues. Aromas of plum, liquorice, blackberry and spice on the nose, with a velvety, full, round texture. The Matteo I° spends two years in barrel before subsequent aging in bottle. This wine will continue to drink at its peak from now until at least 2030. A fantastic match for grilled meat, hearty soups, lasagne or fillet of beef with Porcini mushrooms.
Who is Matteo? Matteo is the next generation of Guerra Albano, son of Dario. He is currently studying economics at university and working in the winery. We have imported Guerra Albano wines for over 10 years and are proud to celebrate their wines in Australia.
