3 bottles of wine from the highly-awarded and stunningly beautiful Bruna Winery on the Italian Riviera. Bruna has made a name for itself producing miniscule interpretations of local varietals over the last 50 years, with Pigato (the local Vermentino clone) in the starring role. The Mediterranean microclimate here imparts fine structure and distinct herbal characters. Fruit is carefully grown, selected and vinified with great attention to detail. Organic.

The terraced vineyards sit 250 meters above sea level, about 15 km from the Mediterranean. Founded in 1970, Bruna is famous for their attention to detail and the small volumes of wine they produce from their tiny 7.5 hectare estate are highly sought after, with 'U Baccan' being their showstopping, flagship wine.

2021 Bruna Pigato 'Maje' Riviera Ligure di Ponente - Characterised by elegance, freshness and stony minerality. Floral, herbal and citrus notes on the nose give way to a palate that is perfectly balanced between freshness and salinity. Fresh and savoury, this is a rare, wonderfully pleasant wine. 13.5%

2021 Bruna 'Bansigu' Rosso Colline Savonesi (Red) Made from carefully selected Granaccia (Grenache) grapes and small quantities of Rossese, Barbera, Cinsault and Marselan. Cherry red in the glass, with ruby red nuances. Intense and intriguing on the nose with notes of wild rose, strawberry tree, plum and raspberry. Lively and juicy on the palate, a mouthful of flavour that is fruity on the finish with a savoury note. 14.5%

2020 Bruna 'U Baccan' Pigato Riviera Ligure di Ponente - Named for the founder,
'U Baccan' ("the boss") comes from 50-70 year old vines planted on both blue and red clay soils, rich in ferrous minerals and fossils. The best fruit from these low-yielding old vines gets selected each vintage for ‘U Baccan’. Aged in barrel on lees, with regular battonage for 10 months, and a further 8 months in bottle before release. The effort put into fruit selection and winemaking delivers an ideal representation of Vermentino’s complexity and great personality.

Straw yellow in the glass, with aromas of Mediterranean herbs like sage and thyme, as well as peach, mango and acacia honey. Mouth-filling texture with balsamic, saline and mineral notes. This is a very special wine with excellent cellaring potential that will complement seafood, vegetarian dishes and Liguria’s famous pesto.
