After spending more than a decade honing his skills at Shaw and Smith, Darryl Catlin is now creating his own unique style of award-winning wines under his own label. In 2016, his winery was recognised by James Halliday as one of the €œTop 10 Best New Wineries €.
An excellent alternative to Shiraz, Montepulciano is a late-ripening, hardy grape. Darryl Catlin (ex Shaw & Smith) has been an enthusiast of the variety for many years. The fruit for the Catlin Black Label comes from a single vineyard on the northern side of the Adelaide Hills. In the glass, the wine shows dark fruits and liquorice with a pronounced tannin structure. The 2016 has especially impressive deep colour.
