After spending more than a decade honing his skills at Shaw and Smith, Darryl Catlin is now creating his own unique style of award-winning wines under his own label. In 2016, his winery was recognised by James Halliday as one of the “Top 10 Best New Wineries”.
An excellent alternative to Shiraz, Montepulciano is a late-ripening, hearty grape. Darryl Catlin (ex Shaw & Smith) has been an enthusiast of the variety for many years. The fruit for the Catlin Black Label comes from a single vineyard on the northern side of the Adelaide Hills. In the glass, the wine shows dark fruits and liquorice with a pronounced tannin structure. The 2016 has especially impressive deep colour, a hallmark of the vintage.
